Ngo Network Wants Law On Women Empowerment
The NGO-Gender Coordination Network says, while women performed “relatively well” in the just ended elections, there “massive” empowerment was being hampered by lack of women empowerment legislation.
The network’s chairperson, Emma Kaliya, said a lot needed to be done in this regard for Malawians to attain social-economic development.
“All the problems we have, in empowering women, emanate from this lack of specific legislation dealing with empowerment. As it is, women are still at the mercy of men and we can’t afford to operate on good will. We need requisite laws,” said Kaliya.
