| Liberia Elections 2011 : Greenfield Warns Against Violence |
Tuesday 30th August 2011
The United States Ambassador to Liberia, Linda Thomas Greenfield, is calling for a halt to all forms of violence in Liberia during the election period.
Madam Thomas Greenfield said, her attention has been drawn to pre-election violence in the country.
The US Ambassador described such violence as worrisome for a democratic process.
The US Envoy made the statements Monday 22 August 2011 on State Radio in Paynesville City when she spoke with Producer Darryl Ambrose Nmah on the popular program, “Eat and Talk”.
“Violence during elections is dangerous for a democratic state; using neighboring Ivory Coast as an example”, she said.
Ambassador Thomas Greenfield said, it is time that Liberian political leaders educate their partisans about the danger of election violence.
“The US Government is supporting the ongoing elections, and has a robust election monitoring team to observe the process; the US Government will support anyone elected President of Liberia”, the US Envoy also said.
